American University of the Caribbean was established in the year 1978 and provides quality medical education to students looking forward to study in an American Caribbean medical school. The students are also prepared to appear for the United States Licensing Examinations which is a prerequisite for working in any medical institution in the United States. This university is accredited by the Department of Education (US government) and is also approved by the Federal Family Education Loan Program. The admission requirements for the School of Medicine of this university are as follows- * Baccalaureate degree with Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English. For the basic sciences, the semester wise tuition fees is around $13000 and for the clinical studies the tuition fees up to the 9th semester is $132500 and for the remaining semesters its $6,625.

Now, let us discuss the most important part of a medical school- the curriculum. American University of the Caribbean has a curriculum of 9.5 semesters where each semester expands for 16 weeks. The first 5 semesters cater to the Basic Sciences that are conducted at St, Marteen. From semester 6 to 9.5, the students are taught at a rolling basis in various affiliated hospitals in the United States, United Kingdom and Ireland.

During the study of Basic Medical Sciences, the students are taught Anatomy, Histology, Molecular or Cell Biology, Physiology, Pathology, and Behavioral Sciences. Students are required to clear USMLE step 1, an exam which progresses the student to the Clinical Medical Sciences. After the completion of the 9.5 semester, the students are required to take the USMLE step 2 test. After this, the students move on to the residency programs.
